SIAM/SAFE organised a major International Conference and Exposition on Inspection and Certification of In-Use vehicles at Agra from 9th to 11th July 2003.
This conference provided a platform to all State Governments to understand the various international systems for implementation of Inspection & Certification systems and deliberate on the best option that can be made available for each state. It was heartening to see record participation of many foreign delegates that especially from Asian countries and the interactions have been useful for everyone.
SAFE signed a memorandum of understanding with Mitra Emisi Bershi (Partnership for Clean Emissions), Indonesia in the august presence of Prof. Tanwir Y Mukawi, Deputy Minister for Environment Impact Management for Non-Institutional Sources, Indonesia and other senior dignitaries with the objective to build a new relationship based on mutually supported new initiatives through dialogue and information exchange on issues of common interest. In fact a SIAM delegation is already in Jakarata from 15th September 2003.
Another important activity in the conference was to launch the FAMI (Federation of Asian Motorcycle Industries) poster highlighting safe riding habits for motorcyclists. It was for the first time in our country, that a safety campaign specifically targeting motorcycles was launched. Mr Subhas Chakraborty, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Transport & Sports, Government of West Bengal launched the 1st poster.
In all our programmes we worked in close partnership with the Police, Transport Departments, local communities, NGOs, industry, and safety organizations to further the cause of clean and safe motoring.
